Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives is officially happening, and fans of the horror/comedy hit are thrilled. Based on author Adam Cesare's popular slasher novel series, the sequel will continue the story of Quinn Maybrook, the survivor of the Kettle Springs Massacre. With a production budget of only $1 million, the original film earned nearly $14 million worldwide, proving that low-budget horror can be a hit. Temple Hill Entertainment is producing the sequel, and the screenplay will be written by Hudson Morgan and Will Lowell, whose work has appeared on the Black List and includes multiple television and feature film projects.
The sequel will follow the storyline of Cesare's second novel in the series, where Quinn finds that her past won't leave her alone when she becomes the focus of online conspiracy theories that claim the Kettle Springs Massacre never happened. A murderous clown attacks Quinn at a frat party while another goes after her father in Kettle Springs, and Quinn realizes that the facts alone are never going to save her. Her only option is to go back into the cornfields, back where the nightmare began, to set the record straight the only way she knows how.
Katie Douglas played Quinn Maybrook in the first film, and while her return has not officially been confirmed, it would make sense for the franchise's Final Girl to come back for another battle with Frendo. The original film, directed by Eli Craig and co-written by Carter Blanchard, earned nearly $14 million worldwide against a reported production budget of only $1 million. Following its theatrical run, the movie found an additional audience through the horror streaming service Shudder.
The Clown in a Cornfield franchise continues with the upcoming sequel, and fans can also return to Frendo's world through the book series. Adam Cesare is continuing the book series with Lights! Camera! Frendo!, the fourth novel in the franchise, arriving on August 18 in hardcover, audiobook, and ebook formats. The book follows Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo and brings the killer clown to Hollywood.
